The Cavalry Bedroll ( standard or
zippered )
A redesign of a military issue bedroll from the 1930's. It
measures 34” wide X 7' long with 9” sides, and has a 4' head
flap. It is made from 12.63 oz. Army Duck. This tightly woven,
double fill canvas is treated with “Sunforger” which makes it
water repellent. There is an envelope sewn into the sleeping area
where I conceal a foam pad. This defines a central area were you can
put a sleeping bag or just use a blanket for warmth. These two
bedrolls are my most popular by far.
The Standard Cavalry Bedroll has two canvas flaps that
fold in opposite directions over the sleeping area. D-rings and
grommets are lined to the edge of each flap. The flaps are laced
which allow you to draw them over your body with one pull of the
cord. This design, with the four foot head flap allows you to really
bunker down and sleep through a rain storm without getting wet.

The Zippered Cavalry Bedroll is just like the Standard
Cavalry Bedroll except there is a single top flap with # 10 zippers
on each side. This makes it easier to get in and out.

The Double Bedroll. I found a great sleeping bag for two so
I just had to make this double bedroll. With pad, it is made just
like the zippered cavalry bedroll. I have put a Velcro closure on
the head flap so the bedroll can be laid open inside a horse trailer
or bunk house without worry of the bedding getting dirty. Rolling up
this bedroll can get tricky and you will need two people, or four
hands for the job.

A traditional bedroll that's a 17'
long sheet of 18 oz. single fill #8 duck that is 7' wide. It is
not treated for water repellency. I have sewn in brass snap hooks,
D-rings, and cotton ties so that it folds around a 42” X 7'
sleeping area where a covered pad is tied into place. The complete
bedroll also has two 80” latigo straps with a handle. This bedroll
is just right for chuck wagon camping and historical rendezvous.
When rolled up it makes for a photogenic camp chair. With the
pad and leather it weighs 26 lbs. I'm proud of this fact. Your
Grandpa would be proud of this bedroll, it will probably bring back
some of his fondest camping memories.

I have been looking for the right sleeping bag to sell along side
my bedroll for a long time. The Nebo Sports Company out of Grand
Prairie Texas has come to my rescue. They make a lot of sleeping
bags but I especially like the Grizzly Bear:
The Grizzly Bear 0 degree Fahrenheit. The dimensions are 90” X 39” with a flat bottom
with flannel liner.
The fill is FeatherLoft “Hollow Fiber” and weighs 7.5 lbs. The
construction of this bag is superb with chest and zipper baffles,
adjustable hood with pull cord, and comes with a stuff sack to store
it in when it's too hot to use in the bedroll. The other sleeping
bag I sell is the Mammoth.
Mammoth + 15 degree Fahrenheit. I recommend the +15
because you should be plenty warm in this DOUBLE sleeping bag with
your partner. It is 60” wide which is less than two standard
sleeping bags zipped together. It is 100” long, the pack weight is
13 lbs, and has all the great features of the Grizzly Bear.
Sleeping Bag Cover The sleeping bag cover is 34” wide
but unlike the cavalry bedroll there are no sides sewn to allow for
girth. There is a single zipper sewn to either side depending on your
preference. Three nylon straps are sewn to the bottom of the cover.
Put a Nebo sleeping bag inside and you can roll it up to fit behind
your saddle.
But wait! That's not all this wonderful company provides.
The Outfitter XXL Cot is 85” long X 40” wide X 20”
tall. That's just the right size for guess what? My Cavalry
Bedroll. It has a 500lb. weight capacity, tough 600 Denier fabric,
and heavy duty rubber bushings that absorb weight and add stability
to its strong steel legs. I think it is the baddest. It weighs
almost 26 lbs. Now that's impressive and so is the price.
